As we embark on a new year, and winter in Chicago settles around us, many people are looking for ways to enjoy themselves at home without braving the cold. The familiar urge to go out and socialize has been tempered after an eventful holiday season, and until warm weather beckons us outdoors again, we thought it would be wise to provide a list of indoor activities to enjoy until the thaw arrives.
If you think being stuck inside all day is boring, take a moment to appreciate the opportunity it gives you to have an old fashioned movie marathon! How many movies have you seen previews for that you have said “I want to see that!” only to never find the time? Well, winter provides an ample amount of time to settle in on the couch to enjoy some new flicks, or revisit the classics.
You don’t have to go to the spa and spend an arm and a leg to have a wonderful spa experience! Order your favorite skin care products online, purchase a face steamer, plus some other skincare treats and set aside time to pamper yourself without any interruptions. You can even find some DIY face mask recipes online and try them out.
Light some candles, play your favorite music, turn off your phone and you will forget about the chill knocking at your door.
There are an endless number of ways to make a bird feeder with random stuff you have at home, like old laundry detergent containers and water bottles. Look up a "How To" guide online and build a bird feeder that will surely attract the most colorful birds to your home for your viewing pleasure. The birds will appreciate it, too!
Most of us have an assortment of unorganized photos lying around our house, and all of us have hundreds of them taking up space in our phones and online social media accounts. Get yourself a real photo album and tuck those forgotten pictures somewhere you can look at them whenever you want. Then, purchase an at-home photo printer and get to work printing out your favorites so you can keep them forever, and maybe free up some phone storage while you’re at it.
Take this time to get in touch with your inner creative! Paint, draw, write, cook- Use this time indoors to invest in your talents, or harness some new ones. Whatever comes to your mind, now is the time to listen to your creative instincts and bring imaginations to life.
