From witnessing its river turning green to running for a cause, there are no shortages of activities you can enjoy during this Irish celebration. The St. Patrick's Day parade started downtown in 1956 and the dyeing of the river started a few years later. The magnitude of today’s celebration can be attributed to Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130, which has sponsored the festivities since its inception.
