The Chicago Air and Water Show is coming to Chicago August 18 & 19, but the best day to catch a peak at the Air Show is on Friday, August 17th when the practice day takes place. The show is free and takes place over North Avenue Beach on Chicago's beautiful lakefront and features the US Navy Blue Angels. These super aircraft and their amazing pilots take off and land from the Gary Airport and fly across the entire stretch of Chicago's downtown Lake Michigan shoreline to arrive in position for the show. Friday's practice day provides an opportunity to catch all of the planes practicing from 11am - approx 2pm and there are -no crowds-at North Avenue beach! While you are downtown you may also want to have a look at the beautiful Buckingham Fountain one of the world's largest fountains and located on Chicago's lakefront at Columbus Drive and Congress Parkway. Every hour on the :20 the fountain shoots up a beautiful display of water jetting up 150 ft in the air. Take a stroll on Chicago's Lakefront and you will be amazed at the beauty Chicago has to offer and so much of it is free.
